Industrial market segmentation is a scheme for categorizing industrial and business customers to guide strategic and tactical decision-making, especially in sales and marketing. While government agencies and industry associations use standardized segmentation schemes for statistical surveys, most businesses create their own segmentation scheme to meet their particular needs.While similar to consumer market segmentation, segmenting industrial markets is different and more challenging because of greater complexity in buying processes, buying criteria, and the complexity of industrial products and services themselves. Further complications include role of financing, contracting, and complementary products/services.

The goal for every industrial market segmentation scheme is to identify the most significant differences among current and potential customers that will influence their purchase decisions or buying behavior, while keeping the scheme as simple as possible. This will allow the industrial marketer to differentiate their prices, programs, or solutions for maximum competitive advantage.
Webster describes segmentation variables as “customer characteristics that relate to some important difference in customer response to marketing effort”. He recommends the following three criteria..Measurability, “otherwise the scheme will not be operational” according to Webster. While this would be an absolute ideal, its implementation can be next to impossible in some markets. The first barrier is, it often necessitates field research, which is expensive and time-consuming. Second, it is impossible to get accurate strategic data on a large number of customers. Third, if gathered, the analysis of the data can be daunting task. These barriers lead most companies to use more qualitative and intuitive methods in measuring customer data, and more persuasive methods while selling, hoping to compensate for the gap of accurate data measurement.
Substantiality, i.e. “the variable should be relevant to a substantial group of customers”. The challenge here is finding the right size or balance. If the group gets too large, there is a risk of diluting effectiveness; and if the group becomes too small, the company will lose the benefits of economies of scale. Also, as Webster rightly states, there are often very large customers that provide a large portion of a suppliers business. These single customers are sometimes distinctive enough to justify constituting a segment on their own. This scenario is often observed in industries which are dominated by a small number of large companies, e.g. aircraft manufacturing, automotive, turbines, printing machines and paper machines.

Operational relevance to marketing strategy. Segmentation should enable a company to offer the suitable operational offering to the chosen segment, e.g. faster delivery service, credit-card payment facility, twenty four hour technical service, etc. This can only be applied by companies with sufficient operational resources. For example, just-in-time delivery requires highly efficient and sizeable logistics operations, whereas supply-on-demand would need large inventories, tying down the supplier’s capital. Combining the two within the same company - e.g. for two different segments - would stretch the company’s resources

Sandeep Dutt’s compilation, Guide to Good Schools of India, now in its seventh edition, is a useful handbook. It is useful, of course, to parents, at whom it is primarily directed. Education—and when I say education in this context, I mean private education—is booming in India. Drive through any small to big town or city in India, and you will see evidence of the boom. From paper leaflets to huge billboards, the advertising of new schools is relentless. Some people are offended by this. I must admit to a degree of discomfort at the way that we are assailed by the arrival of a new school. Yet, what is undeniable and heartening is that this is evidence of the boom in education—and in the long run that can only be good. More schools mean more opportunities and choices for India’s children and parents.
How, though, should parents choose amongst the array of schools available? Should they opt for an old, established school? Should they instead try out a new, innovative school? Is a day school or a residential school better for their child and their family? What kind of fees should they expect to pay for what kind of facilities? Is a co-educational school suited to them or a single-sex school? This book does not answer all these important and challenging questions, but it does lead us towards some answers by giving us data on a whole range of residential schools.
Dutt’s Guide to Good Schools of India is not just a useful handbook for parents. It is also a good starting point for education professionals—teachers, principals, school management, and officials and other policy makers—and the general public that might be interested in such matters. I looked through the pages of the volume with a fair degree of curiosity: who were these other good (residential) schools of India apart from the ones that quickly come to mind? What do the old and new schools offer? How much are we all the same, and how much do we differ?
Dutt has not written a Ph.D. thesis on these issues; but he has given education professionals a tantalizing peak into the fast-changing world of residential schools.We in India are not very good at producing handbooks and simple, informative material for consumers. Sandeep Dutt has pioneered the effort for schools. I hope he continues to provide this service, indeed to improve it with each edition.

The State of Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Industrial Training Service offers the following training services for new or expanding industries to meet their individual needs and requirements.Pre-employment Training: Special programs are designed which focus on developing basic skills for new employees, such as quality control, applied mathematics, blueprint reading, measuring instruments, safety, and production procedures. Other items may be added at the company's discretion.
Participants are not yet company employees but are taking training with the possibility of becoming employed. The program permits the development of basic employability skills and allows the company to observe and evaluate program participants for improved employee selection and placement in the job best suited to the employees. In addition, program participants may decide whether or not they desire to do the type of work provided by the company.
On-the-job Training: This program offers on-the-job development of specific skills and knowledge under actual production conditions. Training is provided by company technicians or instructors mutually acceptable by the Industrial Training Service and the company.
First-Line and Second-Line Training: Training is offered to existing personnel at the first-line and second-line level. The program is designed for persons who have been promoted from the technical work level to supervision and for those who will receive promotions. The course is tailored to specific company procedures and management style focusing on basic principles of supervision, roles, and responsibilities.
Job Instructor Training: Additional courses for supervisors are offered on a company request basis entitled Job Instructor Training (J. I. T.). The new or potential supervisor is given actual experience for teaching workers how to perform their jobs under production conditions. Emphasis in the J.I.T. program is on organizing instructional material, presenting the material, demonstrating proper performance of a task, and evaluating and correcting the new employee's performance.
Training For Unique Equipment and Processes: In some cases, training programs are developed for companies involved in new equipment or processes in their new plant or expansion. The Industrial Training Service will assist in developing the training of key personnel to the point that they become competent and can teach other personnel in the plant. These programs may be conducted in-plant or at other locations having the unique equipment or processes operating.

With his varied interests in different branches of science and deep interest in reading, he had added many invaluable books to the library. After the institute's activities enlarged , library's collection developed in the new areas of research activities.
Its collection is strong in the areas of astronomy and astrophysics, theoretical physics, optics and liquid crystals. Apart from these subjects, there are books on computer science, electronics, scientific biographies, general science, nature and fine arts. It has also a collection of non-book materials like scientific slides, CDROMS and sky surveys(both on paper and CDROMS), audio and video tapes.
The Library participates in inter library networking activities and has a good rapport with the libraries in the city as well as outside. It is manufacturing workers who will bear the hardest brunt of foolish decisions made on Wall Street and in Europe’s financial district.
Restructuring has been taking place in virtual social vacuum at EU level. While social Europe has been stalled, we have witnessed the liberalisation of labour markets, the greater introduction both precarious employment and economic flexibility, and changes in our welfare states which promote greater wealth inequality - especially in relation to unemployment policies and pensions. Wages and labour costs have been targeted undermining purchasing power and consumer demand. Only a strong and effective social Europe can revive citizens’ enthusiasm for the European ideal. Social Europe cannot exist without strong national trade unions, with strong employers’ organisations as counterparts, and fully developed collective bargaining rights.

Policy-makers should focus on the real economy. The current crisis stemming from the financial markets not the real economy, in the context of climate change, demands a fundamental change in Europe’s social and economic policy framework. Under the threat of recession and growing unemployment, we urgently need coordinated and sustainable social, economic and industrial policies to ensure public confidence in the economy and stimulate economic demand, protecting jobs in the real economy.

It is not too late to act and there are opportunities for industrial workers in these challenges. These must be grasped. The additional incentives shall be detailed in the scheme The Government is remitting fifty percentage of the stamp duty payable under the Stamp .This facility is available to SSI units for executing legal documents like hire purchase agreements, lease deed documents etc, in respect of allotment of sheds and plots by Goa IDC.The Corporation has renewed its transfer and sub leasing guidelines with an objective to facilitate/give impetus to industrial growth & development in the state, to achieve optimum utilization of land, to ensure that genuine transfer are not affected on account of routine business decisions and to discourage profit-making by state of plots.In other words, the guidelines, the guidelines are more liberalised by reducing the transfer fees and sublease fees, etc. Industries which would be given preference or over riding priority in matters of clearances/ registration/ allotment of plots etc. are - Information Technology, agro, based, foods (including fisheries) processing, tourism, electronics (including computer software manufacturing and telecommunications) bio-technology, light engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, wood carving, automotive parts, gem and jewelery, diamond cutting, garments etc. In these matters also precedence will be given to mother units with potential for backward forward linkages and ancillarisation.

The Goa Daman and Diu Industrial Development Corporation (GDDIDC) was established by the Government of Goa, Daman and Diu under the provisions of Goa, Daman and Diu Industrial Development with the aims and objectives of securing and assisting in the rapid and orderly establishment of industries in IndustrialAreas and Industrial Estates in Goa.

One of the important activities of the Corporation is to identify land of sizeable area for setting up of Industrial Estates. In pursuance of the above objectives, the GDDIDC (now renamed Goa IDC) has so far established twenty two Industrial Estates in Goa, Daman and Diu, viz Corlim, Margao, Sancoale, Daman, Mapusa, Tivim, Bichotim, Kakoda, Honda, Bethora, Canacona, Kundaim, Diu, Tuem, Verna, Cuncotim, Pilerne, Marcaim, Pissurtem, Colvale, Shiroda and Sanguem

The SSI Units should obtain provisional SSI registration from the local Directorate of Industries. For medium and large scale units approval from High Powered Coordination Committee is required. In case of partnership firm or a Company or a Co-operative society or a Trust, the Registration of Firms or Certificate of Incorporation along with Memorandum &t Articles of Association or a certified copy of a Trust should be submitted. The unit should submit complete project report and state the arrangements made to finance the project and procurement of machinery (enclose documents). This should be to the satisfaction of IDC. A sanction letter from the financial institution /bank regarding working capital requirements is also to be submitted.
Other clearances like NOC from the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Chief Inspector of Factories and Boilers, Drugs Controller, Environment Protection Agency and or other authorities concerned in implementing the project should be obtained, if necessary.The income tax clearance certificate has to be produced.

In case of manufacture of fruit & vegetable based products, licence under Fruit Products Order is also required to be obtained. In case of units manufacturing explosive products, NOC from the Chief Controller of Explosives, Nagpur is required to be obtained. INCENTIVGoa offers innumerable advantages to investors in terms of social and physical infrastructure. In addition various incentives / subsidy schemes are already in operation. To further boost investment in industrial sector, it is proposed to offer a host of incentives and investor friendly measures. These measures would not only provide a competitive advantage to State as an attractive investment destination but also sustain the long term presence of industries. The proposals will be given concrete shape by finalizing appropriate schemes within a period of nine days from the date of publication of the industrial Policy.The following incentives / subsidies and investor friendly measures are proposed.
